Energy group Innogy has bought Smart BioEnergy, a company operating a biogas plant in Písek.
Czech energy group Inonogy has taken its first step into the biomethane market with the acquisition of Smart BioEnergy. The medium-sized biogas plant in Písek has an electrical output of 1,189 kW and a thermal output of 1,177 kW, which is used to supply Písek and its industrial zone with 35,000 GJ of heat and 10,000 MWh of electricity per year. Both parties have agreed to not disclose the price of the transaction.
As part of its 10-year strategy, Innogy aims to be a significant player in the growing biomethane market. Domestic biomethane production was 6 million cubic meters last year. However, according to the draft of Development Support Action Plan, biomethane production is expected rise up to 500 million cubic meters by 2030. Efforts to close this gap present opportunities for biomethane producers, consumers and their suppliers.
