Growth observed in the gross output of vehicle manufacture between 2015 and 2019 was halted by COVID-19 restrictions in 2020.
Czech motor vehicle manufacture (based on units produced) experienced steady growth in the last decade until 2019. COVID-19 and related restrictions put on companies caused a decrease in units produced by 12% in 2020vs2019.

Slovakia is one of the leading countries in the production of motor vehicles (per one direct employee) at 13.1 (in 2019), well above the EU average of 7.1 vehicles. The increase in total motor vehicles in use in the 5-year period until 2020 was caused primarily by passenger cars, which increased by 15% in 2020vs2016. The majority of passenger cars in Slovakia run on petrol and diesel.
