European CFO Survey autumn 2024
17 December 2024
5 February 2025
The industrial holding MTX group is in negotiations to take over part of the European portfolio of Aluflexpack.
The Czech MTX Group finds itself in an interesting position. At the beginning of 2024, Austria's Constantia Flexibles announced the signing of an agreement to acquire a 57% stake in Switzerland's Aluflexpack. However, the European Commission found that this merger would lead to a very high combined market share, as well as a high level of concentration, in the European Economic Area in the field of sterilisable aluminium packaging and lids. Constantia proposed to solve the problem by selling Aluflexpack's production capacity in this area, including the Omial Novi production plant in Omis, Croatia, to the MTX Group.
MTX Group is already active in the production of packaging materials through TAPA Tábor and its other company, AL INVEST Břidličná, already supplies aluminium semi-finished products for packaging. The acquisition would help expand production capacity and strengthen vertical integration within the holding company, which comprises 31 companies with a total annual turnover of CZK 54 billion and 2,600 employees. All parties to the transaction have decided not to comment further on the transaction for the time being.
