Křetínský’s EP Group is acquiring Royal Mail

After half a year EP group reached an agreement with British government to take over Royal Mail for 5,6 billion pounds.

British Mail

On average, the Royal Mail sends 4 letters and parcels a week to each of its 30 million addresses, doing so with 160,000 employees and 46 distribution centers. In one of the biggest deals of the year, Daniel Kretinsky is expanding his UK portfolio and taking over Royal Mail.

Royal mail has been struggling. Last year it has ended at a loss of 419 million pounds and has missed its performance targets since 2018, resulting in last week’s fine of 10.5 million pounds.

In the takeover, which has been awaiting government ‘s approval since May, it will be British government who will retain decision-making rights through a "golden share". The deal is expected to be completed within a few weeks and will expand Kretinsky’s portfolio on the British Isles after previous acquisitions of the Sainsbury's supermarket chain and the West Ham United football team.
