Křetínský successfully acquired the MaasStroom gas-fired power plant in Rotterdam along with a 50% stake in Enecogen, which operates another gas-fired power plant in the same location. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
With the addition of the MaasStroom gas-fired power plant in Rotterdam, EPH will own a total of four gas-fired power plants in the Netherlands. Together, these plants have a capacity of 2.6 gigawatts, making EPH the third largest power plant operator in the country. The MaasStroom facility alone contributes 426 megawatts to this cumulative capacity, while the other plant in Rotterdam at Europoort boasts an installed capacity of 910 megawatts.
Last year, EPH recorded a significant increase in operating profit (EBITDA), which reached EUR 4.3 billion (approximately CZK 101 billion). This represents a year-on-year increase of EUR 2 billion (CZK 47 billion). The group's consolidated sales almost doubled, reaching EUR 37.1 billion (CZK 871.8 billion) in 2021. The overall results were influenced by factors such as higher energy prices, the development of the entire group and its strategic acquisitions.
The EPH Group, comprising more than 70 companies across Europe, has more than 24,000 employees. Major entities of the holding include EP Infrastructure, EP Power Europe, EP Logistics International (an umbrella for transport and forwarding companies) and EP Real Estate. The Group's portfolio includes power plants from the Czech Republic, through Italy and France to the UK. In addition, EPH plays a key role as a major importer of gas into Europe.
Earlier this year, EP NL made significant acquisitions when it took ownership of the Sloe and Rijnmond power plants in the Netherlands. In addition, EP NL owns PZEM Energy Company B.V. and PZEM Pipe. Křetínský also makes portfolio investments through Vesa Equity Investment and owns minority stakes in various publicly traded companies, including postal companies in the Netherlands and the UK, retail chains Fnac Darty and Foot Locker, J Sainsbury's and the French television group TF1 Group.
