Cisco acquires Brno-based Smartlook

US company Cisco will take over Smartlook, which specialises in analysing user behaviour on the internet. As part of the deal, Cisco will acquire complete ownership of the company. The value of the acquisition has not been disclosed and the deal is expected to be completed by the end of July.

Smartlook specialises in tracking and analysing user behaviour on websites and apps, offering valuable insights into user interactions. This data-driven approach enables organizations to effectively identify and address complex digital behavior anomalies while providing in-depth analysis of user interaction trends across web and mobile app platforms. By optimizing user experience and business outcomes, Smartlook enables organizations to streamline their operations and achieve better results. Cisco intends to use Smartlook to extend the capabilities of the Cisco AppDynamics platform and Full-Stack Observability Digital Experience Monitoring (DEM) solution, specifically in the area of digital customer experience analytics.

Smartlook was founded in 2016 as a product within another start-up Smartsupp.In 2020, the company became independent and in the same year received a significant investment of over CZK 80 million from the Dutch fund Airbridge Equity Partners with the contribution of previous Czech investors Novira Capital and Reflex Capital. According to the financial results for 2021, published in the Commercial Register, the company reported revenues of CZK 86 million, but at the same time posted a loss of CZK 8.7 million. Smartlook employs more than 90 people and has offices in San Francisco in addition to Brno and Prague.

Cisco has previously made strategic acquisitions in the Czech Republic. A notable example is the acquisition of Cognitive Security, a startup specializing in network security and advanced cyber threat detection, which took place in 2013.
