Oriens is buying the retail chain Hruška as part of its strategic expansion. The Hungarian industrial holding will take control of the Ostrava-based chain, which operates stores mainly in Moravia, Silesia and eastern Bohemia.
According to its latest annual report, Hruška achieved sales of CZK 7.78 billion in 2022, down CZK 374.2 million year-on-year. Net profit for the same period was CZK 156.5 million. In 2022, the company operated 434 of its own stores and employed over 3,000 people.
The Hungarian industrial holding Oriens has been actively involved in the Czech market in recent months and has made significant investments. In the Czech Republic, Oriens owns Moravia Containers, a company specialising in the production of modular buildings and containers. In the past year, it has made purchases of Steelmart, a metallurgical materials trader from Huštěnovice in Uherské Hradiště, Sanborn, a supplier of components and specialised parts for the energy, oil and gas and transport industries from Velký Meziříčí, and also acquired a stake in Gastro-menu Express from Třinec in the Frýdek-Místek region. In addition, in July last year, ÚOHS announced that Oriens may buy another food chain in the Czech Republic, Pramen CZ.
