Sewio, a Czech manufacturer of real-time localization systems (RTLS), has announced the sale of the company to US firm HID.
Sewio, which was founded in 2014 and is based in Brno, will become part of HID. The company specialises in ultra-wideband (UWB) technology for low-power object location, similar to low-power Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. This technology is widely used in manufacturing industry to improve safety by tracking the movement of people, forklifts and materials in real time with high accuracy. Founded in 2014, Sewio has a team of approximately 40 employees in Brno and its customers include car manufacturers such as KIA, Volvo and Hyundai, other companies such as Philips, Velux, Polaris and various emergency services and military organisations.
Sewio's technology solutions will be integrated into HID's Internet of Things Services (IOTS) business unit and will benefit from HID's global sales and support functions. Headquartered in Austin, Texas, HID has more than 4,500 employees worldwide and operates international offices in more than 100 countries.
