Rohlik Group bought German online food retailer Bringmeister

The Rohlik Group has completed the acquisition of German online grocer Bringmeister, making it the 100% owner of the online supermarket. In exchange, Rockaway will acquire a stake in the Rohlik Group, the amount of which will depend on the performance of Knuspr.de and Bringmeister in the year following the merger. This strategic move paves the way for the expansion of Rohlik's services in Germany, while significantly strengthening its customer base in Berlin and Munich.

Rohlik Group was founded in 2014 in the Czech Republic and is Europe's leading online food delivery service. The company, which operates in the Czech Republic (Rohlik.cz), Hungary (Kifli.hu), Austria (Gurkerl.at), Germany (Knuspr.de) and Romania (Sezamo.ro), has seen rapid growth, reaching unicorn status in 2021 - a privately held company valued at over $1 billion.

Rohlik has been operating in Germany since 2021, serving the areas around Munich, Augsburg and Frankfurt. The recent acquisition also brings Berlin under its remit. Bringmeister has been active in the German market since 1997, originally part of the Edeka retail group, before becoming part of the Czech group Rockaway two years ago. With this acquisition, the Rohlik Group is poised to achieve a turnover of EUR 750 million this year, with sales expected to approach EUR 900 million after the acquisition.

The acquisition strengthens the Rohlik Group's position in online grocery sales in Munich, where its subsidiary Knuspr would exceed a 25 percent market share. In addition, Bringmeister plans to move its operations to a fully automated fulfilment centre in Garching near Munich in October and expects to reduce costs and increase profitability as a result.

Interestingly, Rockaway Capital owns, among other things, a stake in the logistics and technology company DoDo, which operates in seven European countries, employs 2,300 couriers and operates more than 1,000 vehicles, as well as a stake in the company Košík.cz, which, like Rohlík, specializes in online sales of food, drugs and supplements.

"With the acquisition of Bringmeister, the Rohlik Group has strengthened its position in the German market and has become a major player that is poised for significant future growth not only in Berlin and Munich, but also in other cities such as Hamburg, Düsseldorf and Cologne."
