The deal values the Italian-themed restaurant chain at approximately €400 million ($434 million). McWin's investment, along with L'Osteria co-founders Klaus Rader and Friedemann Findeis, aims to support the chain's growth in Europe.
In 1999, Friedemann Findeis founded L'Osteria together with his partner Klaus Rader in Nuremberg as a restaurant chain focusing on Italian cuisine and atmosphere. L'Osteria's recipe for success is pizza, pasta and desserts of the highest quality at reasonable prices and above all freshly prepared. L'Osterie now has 157 restaurants in eight European countries and this is the first change of ownership since the company was founded 24 years ago.
McWin's investment company is led by Henry McGovern, an experienced foodservice executive who also founded AmRest. Under his leadership, the company has successfully launched fast food brands such as Burger King, KFC, Pizza Hut and Starbucks in Central Europe. McWin has operations in the UK, Spain and Poland and specialises in food and technology investments. It owns more than 1,500 restaurants across Europe.
The transaction is subject to regulatory requirements and is expected to close this quarter.
