Mafra has been struggling with economic pressures for some time, but in 2021 Mafra reduced its loss from CZK 868m to CZK 113m and its turnover increased by one per cent to CZK 2.69bn. The company's publications reach 3.24 million readers and 7.4 million internet visitors. The company publishes Mladá fronta DNES, Hospodářské noviny in Slovakia and many other titles, including Lidové noviny, the oldest Czech daily. Mafra has also incorporated Bauer Media's magazine portfolio under its brand and operates the Óčko television station and Radio Impuls

Forbes reported in January that energy tycoons Pavel Tykač and Daniel Křetínský are among the potential buyers. Křetínský, together with Slovak billionaire Patrik Tkáč, owns the Czech News Center media group, which publishes Blesk, the most widely read daily in the country.
